Assistant Homes Manager.
Responsible to: Manager of the home and Responsible Individual
Main purpose of role: The role of Deputy Manager is to support the Registered Manager in the day to day running of the children’s home, including deputising for them as and when required. The key responsibilities will be to assist the Registered Manager in the management and development of the home and support staff to drive the delivery of an excellent quality service. In the manager’s absence you will have full responsibility and accountability for the running of the home.
To effectively and efficiently deliver the main responsibilities and key result areas encompassed within an Assistant Managers role. To meet the below requirements within a residential setting catering for young people. The assistant homes manager will support the manager in the day to day running of the home as well as supporting the home on call and in the manager’s absence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the management of the home in developing the skills and potential of support workers.
- Manage and lead the support team, in the manager’s absence, through a set action plan.
- Take responsibility for the effective and efficient running of shifts and ensure balance of strengths/experience on shifts.
- To manage the rota in the home.
- To understand and support on call responsibilities during the day, evening, and weekends.
- To undertake management tasks within the role and oversee the areas of responsibility within the settings.
- Work within and ensure effective delivery of the policies and procedures in the home, and the company.
- To put together an action plan/agenda points and support team meetings and support in individual and team development.
- To undertake all necessary training, to meet the needs of the role and promote continued professional development and keep up to date with renewals.
- Complete all management modules on Avensure, safer recruitment, safeguarding and leadership.
- Monitor and maintain administrative requirements, ensuring that the outcome meets the standards set out in children’s legislation, and the homes working practices.
- Ensure ongoing assessment of young people’s needs in day-to-day practice.
- Oversee, supervise, and develop the skills of staff in their daily working practice.
- Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
- Promote therapeutic strategies within the team.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team both within the home and with external agencies.
- Relate to and engage young people who display challenging behaviour, using the PBS approach.
- At all times ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and young people.
- Ensure staff members are aware of and deliver the support required to ensure the life chance opportunities of young people are met in relation to their social, educational, leisure, emotional, physical, and cultural needs.
- Ensure and undertake supervisory responsibilities, including the written supervision of care team support workers, within legislative time scales.
- Ensure the delivery of all key worker areas and responsibilities.
- Oversee, write, and edit all reports when submitted for meeting and reviews.
- Support the team to promote and understand the Model of Care.
- Oversee the inductions and probations of staff.
- Understand and actively take part in the referral process and know the paperwork involved.
- Understand the role of Ofsted (Process, inspection, criteria/inspection areas, gradings)
- Ensure a variety of intervention strategies are utilised in relation to behaviour management.
- Where required attend reviews and or meetings.
- Ensure an open culture is created so that young people feel they can complain and that they are listened to.
- Ensure that all administrative requirements of the home are maintained in such a way that they are compliant with good childcare practices, homes procedures, company policies and children’s regulations.
- Become competent on the necessary areas of the ClearCare systems
- Be responsible for amounts of petty cash, receipting monies as appropriate and conducting such transactions in accordance with financial regulations.
- Familiarise with the TriX system and company care policies and procedures.
- Assist, when necessary, across the wider business with staff support.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people in the home by being familiar with and aware of the children’s home’s safeguarding policy, procedures and guidelines and to adhere to them at all times.
- Lead, exemplify and evaluate excellent practice. To ensure a high standard of practice within your staff teams.
- Take part in the assessment process of potential new admissions to the home. This is inclusive of the emergency placement where appropriate.
