About Farwood
Farwood Lodge is a large detached property, set within its own grounds, which encompasses a secluded woodland area behind the home, and is set amidst private gardens and grounds. Farwood Lodge is situated in a quiet residential area of Huddersfield. It is a suitable and well- maintained building, and is ideal for the purpose which it intends to serve. Farwood Lodge intends to replicate, as near as possible, the concept of a family home, whilst promoting the concept of development of independence skills in preparation of adulthood, and leaving care.
The home benefits from large spacious rooms, and compromises of a large communal lounge area, large dining room, and kitchen area, utility room and four bedrooms for the young people, staff bedrooms and an office. The spacious, and homely environment provided at Farwood Lodge, contributes towards creating a high standard of physical care.
Although Farwood Lodge is set back in its own grounds and gives the appearance that it is in a rural area, it is only 0.6 miles from the town centre of Huddersfield where access to the local amenities is in walking distance. There is a good bus route on the main road which also provides easy access to other local towns such as Brighouse, Halifax and Bradford.
An appropriate Placement/Pathway plan will be identified, which is sensitive to the individual needs of the young person, in partnership with the young person, social workers, other working agencies, and anyone with parental responsibility who wishes to be involved. Supported Pathway Placements provides direct support to develop independent living skills and are responsible for the distribution of agreed personal allowances where required.
The staff members / care team members that work throughout GBA Care, are a diverse mix, and as such come from many different ethnic backgrounds, we aim to celebrate diversity, to ensure that we can provide appropriate support with cultural, and linguistic needs. Staff positively promote and value difference. Young people will be provided with practical, educational and social activities that promote diversity, ethnicity and ensure that religious needs are met.
The care staff ratio provided at Farwood Lodge is dependent on the needs of the young people, including up to 2:1 staffing levels. The home operates with 1 member of the care team on sleep duty throughout the night, settling after their shifts are completed and a waking watch member of staff who ensure the young people are safeguarded throughout the night.
The home works closely with CCATS following the individual model of care to ensure young people’s wellbeing needs are fully met. The home have excellent links with services in the local community and can provide young people with external services within the area to meet their needs. This also includes opportunities for young people to engage in a wide range of activities they are interested in. There is a number of local educational facilities both mainstream and non-mainstream to help young people gain educational qualifications to support them
Testimonial
Dear manager and team, this is a little heartfelt ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you who have worked with and supported my son over the past two months. I am really grateful to everybody for the care shown to him. Mostly I am thankful that he has been shown kindness and boundaries and that you have all worked together as a team to support him and keep him safe.
Quotes from Social Workers
There was clear joined up working throughout the period of the young person’s placement and workers weren’t shy enough to be ingenious in coming up with ideas that they thought could help the young person. For the first time in a long time, he felt secure in the care he received, and this was evidenced in the relationships he built with the staff.
It is my analysis that the support and care for the young person received during his stay with GBA Care at Farwood Lodge was a positive and secure experience for him in his transition to adulthood.
I have found staff at Farwood communicative with myself and supportive of the young person. He has been able to form positive relationships with staff and has appeared very settled during his time in placement.
Quotes from a Young Person
I loved it at Farwood and I will miss it, but it was time for me to move on. Thank you everyone for your support.
Farwood is the best placement I have had since being in care.
