As with all GBA services, the variety of Supported Pathway Placements are flexible and dynamic allowing bespoke care packages to be implemented, which ensure that the individual needs of the young person are met.
A number of these packages are however designed to reduce the contact, support, dependency and the overall associated costs over an identified period of time, providing all agree it is safe to do so and this would be in the best interests of the child, further promoting their independence. The success of these packages relies on our ability to provide 24/7 support, delivered by experienced workers with a broad variety of specific interests and skills which are matched to the individual Young Person.
The varying packages of support are described below in brief (Click to jump to jump to section)
Group living accommodation is where a Young Person lives within a multi-occupancy (2+) property which either has shared communal facilities or a ‘bed-sit’ type living space as part of a larger communal building. We currently use 2 different sites to provide this type of support.
Within these environments, members of on-site staff provide both formal and informal guidance and practical assistance to support the young person in gaining independent living skills, dependent on their level of need. Within this group living setting, it is of fundamental importance that a clear risk assessment is undertaken prior to any young person moving into the address.
Differing behaviours displayed by the young people in the group will directly impact on the productivity and success of the living environment as a whole and therefore the matching process is crucial, requiring a dynamic approach. GBA Care meets all the relevant statutory and legal requirements associated with group living/housing; our service is defined by high standards of quality and an enriching care environment.
All communal areas of the home and individual accommodation for the young people are safe and secure and fully furnished to a high standard making them fully equipped for supported living. GBA Care is responsible for the repair and maintenance of both the property and accommodation contained within the address. GBA Care group living is available 7 days per week, 365 days per year and is appropriately staffed to accommodate this on the same basis.
Supported Tenancy
GBA Care operates several individual supported tenancy packages. Upon occasion where we source a housing provider for the young person’s tenancy we would support that tenancy on behalf of the young person. GBA Care also utilises its knowledge and partnerships to source through its own stock private and registered social landlords to seek out appropriate tenancies for young people.
The key element to each supported tenancy is GBA Care’s ability to provide dynamic floating support to sustain the tenancy by encouraging the development of the young person’s independent living skills. We provide a floating support service which provides a general non-specialist support with daily living skills and practical tasks, all underpinned by a high level of emotional support to promote and maintain the young person’s ability to live independently.
Support involves an initial assessment of an individual’s needs which is then reviewed on a monthly basis being informed by robust and ongoing dynamic risk assessments. GBA Care and the young person identify the actions to meet the assessed needs and this forms the basis of an agreement between both within the next 4 week cycle.
The distinguishing criteria of floating support to be provided as part of the Supported Tenancy package are:
- Aim to increase independent living, so support decreases over time.
- Support people with a wide range of needs and uniqueness.
- Support is linked to the individual rather than the accommodation.
- Young people are all encouraged to be involved throughout service in planning and the delivery, building resilience and knowledge.
It is also a suitable service provision for vulnerable young people whom are completely ready to live on their own independently without support, but for whatever reason may require a supported tenancy.
Supported Lodgings Accommodation
GBA Care can offer Supported Lodging accommodation, we provide a young person a room in the home of a lodgings provider under a license agreement. The young person occupies a bedroom and has shared use of other facilities within the home. The young person receives practical and emotional support from the lodgings provider. The lodgings provider would be safely recruited, assessed, trained and supported by our organisation, and is subject to QA independent visits and assessment.
GBA Care sets out clear expectations about the role of the lodgings provider and arrangements for the young person e.g. in respect of meals, access to the provider’s house, restricted areas within the provider’s house, payments by the young person.
The young person would receive income maintenance from either DWP benefits or Children’s Services.
GBA Care is responsible for arranging admission at short notice on the basis of its own risk assessment and matching the young person to an appropriate lodgings provider. During the risk assessment period, the young person might stay temporarily with relatives or friends, overnight in an emergency provision or placed in Bed and Breakfast, which GBA Care support and service.
Floating Support
GBA Care delivers floating support to sustain a tenancy by encouraging the development of the young person’s independent living skills.
A range of different forms of floating support may be provided, but the main purpose is to provide general, non-specialist support with daily living skills, practical tasks or emotional support – which promotes or maintains a person’s ability to live independently.
GBA Care’s support package involves an assessment of an individual’s needs. GBA Care and each young person identify the actions to meet the assessed needs and this forms the basis of an agreement between both.
